FREE summer film series Animated Nights! kicks off with the 19th Annual Animation Show of Shows on Fri., July 6, under the stars at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Garden
The summer’s FREE film series, Animated Nights!, kicks off with a screening of the 19th Annual Animation Show of Shows on Friday, July 6, at 8:30 p.m. outdoors at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Garden. The evening features 16 exceptional animated short films introduced by Ron Diamond, curator of Animation Show of Shows.
For nearly 20 years, the Animation Show of Shows has selected the best in animated short films from the world’s most renowned animation festivals and presented these new and innovative short films to audiences around the world. This year’s lineup offers a wealth of humor, insight and profundity with 16 creative and inspiring animated shorts. The selections represent the work of artists from eight countries, including nine women. Highlights include a newly-restored 50-year-old short “Hangman,” and “Dear Basketball,” the Academy Award-winning short by Disney veteran Glen Keane, based on a poem by former Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant. Funny, moving, engaging and thought-provoking, the Animation Show of Shows not only has something for everyone, but also is a remarkable and insightful microcosm of our world. (16 animated shorts, 93 minutes. May include adult content.)

 About FREE Summer Cinema

This year’s FREE Summer Cinema series features eight acclaimed animated film screenings: 19th Annual Animation Show of Shows, The Triplets of Belleville, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Ratatouille, The Iron Giant, Persepolis and Loving Vincent. Films will be screened Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at UCSB Campbell Hall and Fridays at 8:30 p.m. under the stars at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Garden. The series runs from July 6 through August 24.

 For Courthouse outdoor screenings, please bring blankets, low-to-the-ground beach chairs (seat must be no more than six inches above the ground), a picnic dinner, blankets and your friends. Filmgoers may begin setting up on the lawn at 12 noon on the day of the Courthouse screenings. Arrive early to find the best spots for this favorite Santa Barbara summer pastime!
