Artist Interview- WAV Resident Luce Patricolo

BlissfulorsLuce Patricolo, the Glass Alchemist

My interview with Luce Patricolo was unfortunately held to phone conversation and email. But I could tell from the brief communication, that Luce was an individual full of passion and life. When speaking of the WAV, Luce’s passion is felt though the computer screen. “The WAV’s intent and Chris Velasco’s dream is to keep artists in Ventura who have all but been driven away by lack of affordability, vanished endowments for the arts, and virtual risk of extinction within our current society. Raising the consciousness of Americans that art is essential to humanity and the feeding of ones soul. Where Europe has always been aware of the worth and contribution of the artists role in society, America, I feel is in need of an awakening of its value”.

Artist Interview- WAV Resident Larissa Strauss

leadIt's time to cancel your flights and reservations, no longer will you need to travel thousands of miles to the ruins of Byzantium in Ravenna, Italy--now you can view the ancient art of Mosaics right here in the 805. Ravenna, a small city on the coast of Northern Italy, holds some of the world's finest preserved examples of the most intricate and difficult type of mosaics, which is aptly named the Ravenna Method. Larissa Strauss, an artist that is currently living and working at the WAV (Working Artists Ventura) project has made use of the Ravenna Method due to inspiration from a Scottish artist she met in Ravenna. He taught her this technique, and although difficult and very time consuming, she decided to use it for the purpose of a more painterly result for her pieces.

Artist Interview- WAV Resident Catlin Harvey Blair

DSC 4678Catlin Harvey Blair: The Interconnectedness of Art and Nature
Catlin Harvey Blair is a sculpture artist and jewelry designer who grew up right here in the 805 in Santa Barbara, California. Growing up in a positive family that raised her with the aesthetic of seeing beauty as it naturally exists in the world, she found her artistic niche early. She loves to put things found in nature in a different context to make them truly seen. “Some people look at a stick and just see a stick, but it’s more than just a stick, it’s this beautiful part of nature that fits in perfectly with its environment,“ says Catlin.

Diane Ippel: A renaissance woman

Diane Ippel is a singer, a musician, a hammered dulcimer expert, a photographer, a jewelry designer, a teacher, an environmentalist, a mother, and so much more. Yes, she is truly a renaissance woman of our time. Diane believes that everything happens for a reason. When she heard about WAV earlier this year, she knew that she had stumbled upon it because it was the right move for her. “I have such a strong urge to be green, which is what WAV encourages. I am so excited to create a new culture here,” says Diane. She packed up as many of her belongings as soon as she could and made the long trip from Illinois to California. Now, she could not be happier. “I love being near my son [who is also a WAV artist] and being near all of these amazingly talented artists,” she says.
