Putting Fashion in Its Place, an Interview with Rhonda P. Hill

Rhonda P Hill VIP Guest LA Fashion Week EDGExpocom

The power of fashion lies in its ability to transform identity and culture.” – Rhonda P. Hill

There is a new generation of designers that are fed up with fast and cheap fashion, over the top runway shows dominated by luxury brands, and the industry's superficial characteristics. And the big dirty little secret of that industry is that it is polluting the environment. Clothing and textiles are one of the largest polluting industries on the planet, right up there with oil. This new generation of designers believes brand identity is nothing without purpose. They stand their ground on creativity, innovation, and building a collection with meaning. "They are a courageous breed of designers who are going against the commercialized trend of 'more is more' and giving artistic value, a cultural face, and environmental consciousness to fashion", says Rhonda P. Hill.

Things from Heaven

Storeview

Originally posted in December 2009, lost in the virus of 2011, found October 2016. Please enjoy...again.
Before opening their gift shop, the Richardson family was going through hard times. Mr. Richardson was out of work, and nobody was hiring in his field. As a last resort, Keith and Francesca decided they wanted to open a store, but had no clue what kind.

They looked into opening a thrift shop, but could not find an organization to sponsor them. So, they decided to open a shop of their own. One night, Mrs. Richardson had a dream. A friend of hers, that she had not seen for many years, but whom she had known committed suicide, came to her with a book. She read the book along with her friend. The book was about angels.

A few days ago, I had the opportunity to peer into a lifestyle that I have always been curious about and often envied: life on a food truck. The life I envisioned was a delicious, nomadic, and carefree one, though after an interview with Susannah Pilcher, manager of the Good to Go Juice smoothie and juice bar, I found that while these things may be true, it takes a whole lot of hard work to be successful.

Eat This Shoot That: Food and Photo Tours

IMG 0536When I heard about Eat This Shoot That, a food and photo tour of Santa Barbara, I immediately thought it was a genius way to see a city and wanted to take one myself. What could describe a city better than a taste of the local cuisine? And how can these memories be cherished better than by learning the secret to capturing them on camera? I had the opportunity to talk with Tara Jones, the “Owner/Big Cheese” (as her email signature notes) of this four-year-old business. Tara has an extensive background in photography and, like most of us, a great appreciation for food, which gave her the inspiration to open this now very successful tour concept. I got the chance to ask her about her inspiration, love for food and photos, and much more and quickly became even more excited by her unique company.
